Poached pears in marsala

This is a simple pud you have to make. It uses my good old friend the slow cooker and is unbelievably delicious.

You need:

  • Conference pears
  • Half a bottle of marsala wine
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • 1 vanilla pod
  • 2 tbsp of soft brown sugar
  • boiling water
  • vanilla ice cream to serve

Peel the pears and then slice of their bums so they stand up straight.

Whack them in the slow cooker and add all the other ingredients.

I used about half a bottle of marsala and then added enough boiling water so that the pears were cooked. Cook on slow for 6 – 8 hours or until the pears are deliciously soft and the liquid a deep caramel.
